Frequently Asked Questions
Where will the therapy take place?
Sessions will take place mostly outdoors in natural spaces, usually within the East Bay Regional
Parks, in hidden groves, and at private farms, or community gardens. You will be provided with
the location when you register. We will plan according to participants’ accessibility needs.
What does nature-based therapy look like?
Activities will vary from silent walks to mindfulness cues, journaling, easy strolls through the
woods, resilience lessons that nature teaches, talk therapy, self-compassion prompts, or
challenge courses. Descriptions of the activities will be tailored to clients’ needs and will be
described during registration.
Do we have to be outdoors type people or have special gear?
No previous experience in nature is necessary and all activities will be made clear to
participants. Participants should wear sturdy, comfortable shoes and wear or bring layers of
clothing. Multi-day or physically challenging experiences such as backpacking, tree planting,
gleaning, or other renewing experiences in the out-of-doors can be arranged with Root ‘n
Renew staff.
